We Could Have Had It All

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

It was a love to last forever
So many years ago
But we let love slip through our hands
Why we did I’ll never know
It was our once upon a time
We still believed that dreams came true
But then our fairy tale ended
And there was no more me and you

It was long ago and far away
When hope was high and love was new
I wish we could go back again
To those days of me and you
For now I just look back in time
As Autumn leaves begin to fall
And each time I remember when
I think we could have had it all

We go through life in search of love
But rarely do we find
The kind of love that we once had
That very special kind
And now I see in looking back
As Summer turns to Fall
If only we had fought for love
We could have had it all

Love is such a fragile thing
Here one moment then it’s gone
We kiss the one we love goodbye
And then we travel on
We think that love will come again
We let love slip away
Thinking that another love
Will surely come our way

But love is ever fickle
It may not come again
And even if it does return
We know not where or when

Perhaps there is still time for us
For one last me and you
So would it be a crime for us
To write a Chapter Two?

We go through life in search of love
But rarely do we find
The kind of love that we once had
That very special kind
And now I see as I look back
As Summer turns to Fall
If only we had fought for love
We could have had it all
