Two Lovers In The Rain

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

It was a summer day
So many years ago
I saw two people standing
Near our favorite place
Then it began to rain
He put his coat on her
I watched them standing there in one last long embrace

The way she looked at him
He looked at her the same
But in the their eyes
I saw a world of hurt and pain
It was their last goodbye
The way it had to be
Two lovers standing in the rain

And as I looked at them
I knew their destiny
They would never see
Each other once again
I asked myself
Could this be me?
Could love be cruel
And let this happen to me then?
For as I looked at them
I thought of you and me
I wondered will the love we have remain
Will love be kind to us?
Or is it destiny
To be two lovers standing in the rain?

I watched them kiss goodbye
They wiped the tears away
And then I saw him turn
And walk toward the train
And in her eyes I saw
The pain of destiny
All alone and standing in the rain

Now as the years go by
I often think of them
And every time I do
I still can feel their pain
And then I start to cry
As I remember them
Two lovers standing in the rain

And as I looked at them
I knew their destiny
They would never see
Each other once again
I asked myself
Could this be me?
Could love be cruel
And let this happen to me then?

For as I looked at them
I thought of you and me
I wondered will the love we have remain
Will love be kind to us?
Or is it destiny
To be two lovers standing in the rain?
