I am sitting by the fire
Reminiscing ‘bout my past
And the people I have known
How life is over much to fast
It is you that I remember
As I watch the hourglass
And the falling grains of sand
That mark the places of my past

We met so many years ago
A zillion miles from here
But even then I knew it
And my destiny was clear

The one I called my first and last
Now I sit here and remember
All the faces of my past

Time and destiny
They are the things we can’t control
Just how long we have to live

One day you’ll meet that special someone
You’ll fall in love you’ll watch love grow
But how long you have together
Is the thing you never know

You promised you would never leave me
You said with me you’d always be
But that promise that you made
Is now a distant memory
For we can’t control the future
What will happen what will be
For to time we must surrender
When it comes to destiny
So many people in our lives
Most come and go a few will stay
But your first love you’ll remember
They will never fade away
It is you that I remember
You were my first you’ll be my last
The only love I’ll ever know
And that is how the die is cast

Now I carry on without you
And my hair has turned to grey
For you’ve traveled on without me
Left me here alone to stay
Take these words as words of wisdom
Before you’re looking at your past
When you find the one you love
Live every moment like your last
