These Things That I Remember

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

Looking back across our lives
January to December
Over all the many years
These are the things that I remember

Just two kids in college
Trying hard to find our way
Marrying so young we thought
Forever we would stay
Then children came along
And all the years just slipped away
Till suddenly we found that we were old and turning gray

Where did all the time go?
How did it run away?
Wasn’t there supposed to be
Another act to play?
It wasn’t s’posed to be like this
When summer turned to fall
Left with only memories
Of things that I recall

Dancing to our favorite songs
And walking on the beach
Concerts in the summer
And your puppies within reach
Building snowmen with the children
When the snow covered the ground
Snuggling by the fireplace
When no one was around

These things that I remember
So clearly I recall
Can never hold a candle
To what I miss the most of all

Where did all the time go?
How did it run away?
Wasn’t there supposed to be
Another act to play?
These things that I remember
So clearly I recall
It will never be a secret
That I miss you most of all
