The Love We Never Knew

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

There was this girl that I once met
She lit a fire inside my heart
We spent some time together
But too soon we had to part
But now as I look back in time
The way I often do
I realize what could have been
The love we never knew

It was so many years ago
I was only twenty two
Just a moment in a lifetime
In the days of me and you
Now I sit here and I wonder
If you really were the one
How I could have let you go
Just when our story had begun

I am sure I would have loved you
If we only had the chance
But time had other plans for us
We never danced the dance
And now it is too late for us
There’s nothing we can do
We’ll never know the magic
Of the love we never knew

It’s all so very tragic
When one heart is borne of two
And there’s no time to let love blossom
We move on as people do
If I could just go back in time
And live my life with you
I know we’d find the magic
Of the love we never knew

I knew you only briefly
As I was just passing through
But now I know what could have been
If I had been with you
I’m sure you were the one for me
I think you know it too
We could have captured all the magic
Of the love we never knew

They say you can’t go back again
I know that this is true
But if I could go back in time
I’d choose to be with you

I am sure I would have loved you
If we only had the chance
But time had other plans for us
We never danced the dance
And now it is too late for us
There’s nothing we can do
We’ll never know the magic
Of the love we never knew
