The Lights Of Broadway

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

I still can remember the first time I saw the lights
Basking in their brilliance on those gorgeous Broadway nights
I knew it even then that one day I would come to see
Those dazzling Broadway lights shining down on only me

I honed all my skills for years so certain I would be
The one that all the people would be coming there to see
Believing fame and fortune was to be my destiny
Never knowing just how difficult the road ahead would be

Give me the lights of Broadway
Let me be who I can be
So I can be the one that all the people come to see
Give me the lights of Broadway
To achieve my destiny
When all the lights of Broadway will be shining down on me

I spent many years preparing getting ready for the time
When somebody would call my name the stage would all be mine
And then one day I got the call quite unexpectedly
An understudy part that opened up the door for me

It wasn’t long till I was standing alone at center stage
The one that they had come to see my name upon the page
When someone turned the spotlight on and aimed it down on me
And everything was beautiful the way it’s s’posed to be
Now finally I have got the chance to prove who I can be
The one that they are cheering for at last it’s finally me

Give me the lights of Broadway
Let me be who I can be
So I can be the one that all the people come to see
Give me the lights of Broadway
To achieve my destiny
When all the lights of Broadway will be shining down on me
