I saw this girl once on the train
It was a cold December day
She turned and looked right at me
I turned my head the other way
I was young and very bashful
And it seemed she was the same
I couldn’t bring myself to speak
To even ask her for her name
Then I summoned up the courage
And I looked her way again
She did the same thing I had done
She looked away just then
Our eyes would never meet
It was all just such a crime
I exited the train and
Looked her way for one last time
As I looked up through the window
She smiled down on me
I knew right there and then
She was with whom I was to be
And as the train departed
On that cold December day
She took my heart right with her
As I watched love slip away
For every day the next two weeks
I rode that train again
Hoping I would find her
There would be no where or when
And each day from that day forward
I’ve thought of her again
Knowing I would never feel
The way I felt back then
If I could live my life again
Go back to that same day
I would have told her that I loved her
Never let her get away
But we can not go back in time
When love should slip away
Instead we live with sad regret
The price we have to pay
It’s a tale as old as time
That when love comes to you by fate
You need to say what’s in
Your heart before it is too late
As I looked up through the window
She smiled down on me
I knew right there and then
she was with whom I was to be
And as the train departed
On that cold December day
She took my heart right with her
As I watched love slip away
