The Day I Fall In Love

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

A girl asked me a question
I pretended not to hear
“Are you ever gonna kiss me?
Or just keep on standing there?”
An uncomplicated question
I heard it very clear
But I couldn’t find an answer
There’s an elephant in here

I don’t think that’s what she wanted
Or expected she would hear
I quickly had to duck
When something whizzed
Right past my ear
“Well what’s it gonna take?” she asked
“Cause I am out of here”
I gave her my best answer
And I tried to make it clear

“I need the Earth to move” I said
“The moon and stars above
Someone who likes the worst in me
And fits me like a glove
And when I find that person
When they’re all I’m thinking of
That’s the day I’ll know the answer
The day I fall in love”

That’s my story with relationships
They always end the same
A girl wants a commitment
I always get the blame
I’m right back to that point again
When push has turned to shove
Wondering if I’ll ever see
The day I fall in love
It’s terrible to go through life
With all this constant pain
The ups and downs the ins and outs
The standing in the rain

It’s what you have to go through
You knew the rules the day you came
So place your bets with no regrets
If you want to play the game

Take it from this old lawyer
Don’t say yes because it’s forced
It’s much easier to marry
Than it is to get divorced

“I need the Earth to move” I said
“The moon and stars above
Someone who likes the worst in me
And fits me like a glove
And when I find that person
When they’re all I’m thinking of
That’s the day I’ll know the answer
The day I fall in love”
