That Same Old Dream

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

Every night that same old dream comes softly in my sleep
A summer sky just you and I and promises to keep
Back to when we fell in love and all the world was ours
Staring at the midnight sky and all the countless stars

That same old dream is calling me back to another time
Long ago a place we’d go when we were in our prime
The images remind me of the way it used to be
When love was new and life was full of possibility

Save me from the same old dream that carries me away
Help me find another path into a brighter day
Till then I’ll wish that things were not as dreary as they seem
I’m happiest when I can sleep and dream that same old dream

That same old dream keeps haunting me each time I close my eyes
Can’t turn off the images until the sun arrives
For you are gone and I’m alone two islands in a stream
The only thing that’s left of you is just that same old dream

I ask myself each night if this is how my life will be
And ponder as I watch the stars if you remember me
Will I ever love again will time remain my friend?
Is there another chance for me or have I reached the end?

Save me from the same old dream that carries me away
Let me find another path into a brighter day
Till then I’ll wish that things were not as dreary as they seem
I’m happiest when I can sleep and dream that same old dream

That same old dream is back again a place we used to know
A winter day so far away where winter winds would blow
The winter days go slowly now and snowflakes fill the sky
I reach for you but you’re not there a tear comes to my eye

Someday I’ll be with you again and know just where you are
Somewhere in the midnight sky and watching from afar
Till then I’ll just keep dreaming where together we can be
And wonder when I’m dreaming if you’re dreaming about me
