I met a man when I was young
Reached out to shake my hand
He put his hand on top of mine
Said “You must understand
When you shake somebody’s hand
You always put your hand on top
It shows that you are in control
And don’t you ever stop”

“It you want to find success in life
Then this how to be
You must always see the positive
Exude that energy
But most of all refuse to lose
In everything you do
For if you just refuse to lose
Success will come to you

I’ve carried these words with me
From the time I was eighteen
Emblazoned in my memory
I know just what they mean
You don’t have to be a genius
To make it to the top
Just be a person who won’t quit
The one who’ll never stop

People often ask me
What’s the key to your success?
Is there a magic formula?
Some secret to confess?
Did you win the lottery?
The derby in Kentucky
I smile and then I tell them
“Well I think I just got lucky”

But then I always say to them
When I hear the laughing stop
“When you shake somebody’s hand
Always put your hand on top”
The way to win is simple
You simply just refuse to lose
Just tell yourself the choice is yours
And this is what I choose
