My Daddy used to say to me “Well Ain’t life grand? You got to keep your focus to get where you planned Don’t let people waste your time One day you’ll understand ‘Cause every minute lost is just another grain of sand”
I’ve kept my shoulder to the wheel My eye upon the prize My Daddy’s words inside me front and center in my eyes And everything turned out almost exactly as I planned When people ask how I just say “Ain’t life grand?”
Life is what you make it It surely can sure be grand So go out there and take it It’s right at your command
I tell my kids the same thing that my daddy said to me You got to pay your dues because nothin’ comes for free Hard work is still the way for you to reach your destiny This will never change it just the way it has to be
So take a tip from me No matter where you stand If you not gettin’ to the place you always planned Take a new direction life can still be grand
You only get one time around You better get it right Or there will come a time that you’ll be cryin’ in the night So look into the hourglass Those falling grains of sand Ask yourself the question “Baby Ain’t life grand?”
