A THIEF IN THE NIGHT

A Thief In The Night

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

He comes quietly each night
When I am fast asleep
To steal my heart away
His secrets all to keep
I am not afraid
He seems to know me well
And yet I do not know his name
For he will never tell

Who is this handsome stranger?
This phantom of the night
Who stays with me until the dawn
But shuns the morning light
Is he fantasy or real?
Is this chance or by design?
Why can’t I see his face
When he is looking into mine?

A thief  in the night
He comes to me
Each time I close my eyes
To steal my heart away again
This master of disguise
He wears a mask upon his face
I only see his eyes
I cannot let him take my heart
No matter how he tries

I try to find him every day
Just hoping that I might
But he is nowhere to be found
He’s hiding out of sight
I can’t wait to go back to sleep
Because I know that then
He’ll return within my dream
Each time the clock strikes ten

The moment that I close my eyes
He reappears and  then
He whispers word of love
And I surrender once again
He takes me in his arms
We dance until the morning light
Now he will always have my heart
This thief who comes at night

A thief  in the night
He comes to me
Each time I close my eyes
To steal my heart away again
This master of disguise
He wears a mask upon his face
I only see his eyes
I cannot let him take my heart
No matter how he tries
