A Birthday Lament - Remembering When

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

Remembering when
A child of ten
Running free and wild again
Full of dreams all right in front of me
Oh what I’d give to go back then
To be that boy, that child of ten
With all my dreams still right in front of me

But now I’m old and wondering how
The years have passed will time allow
So many dreams that still are yet to be
If I could do it all again
I’d be once more that child of ten
And not the man who’s here remembering when

Time goes by in the blink of an eye
You never even see it fly
Till one day time no longer is your friend
You run the race each passing day
Until your dreams are swept away
And hope that time will let you reach the end

In my mind I’m still that boy
Running free and full of joy
Ready for whatever life portends
So time be damned cause life goes on
It still is an unfinished song
So many verses left before it ends

Remembering when
That child of ten
If I could do it all again
Oh what I’d give if I could go back then
