1943

Lyrics by Hal Pollock

I spent some time at Grandpa’s house
Just going through his things
Momentos of his younger days
His great meanderings
All his long lost treasures
That he cherished through the years
Yearbooks cards and records
The kind that bring the tears

It was there I saw the letters
“To the one that I Adore”
And every letter ended
“I will love you ever more”
It was then that I remembered
What he once mentioned to me
”There was this girl back in the war
I met in ‘43 …”

“I’ll love you ever more my dear
Through all of time and space
Our love will last forever
That time never will erase
Though we may not be together
I will always be with you
In memories we treasure
Of the love that we once knew”

I sat and read the letters
As the tears streamed down my face
A love song for the ages
Another time another place
I read every single letter

While fighting back the tears
For I was right there with them
Looking back across the years

It was long ago and far away
So many years ago
A story of two people
Who loved each other so
I think about them every day
A tear comes to my eye
And every now and then
I just break down and start to cry

I want to know that kind of love
That makes you want to cry
For just one day or just one time
Just once before I die
A love song for the ages
Can it happen once for me?
The kind of love my Grandpa knew in 1943

“I’ll love you ever more my dear
Through all of time and space
Our love will last forever
A love that time cannot erase
Though we may not be together
I will always be with you
In memories we treasure
Of the love that we once knew”
